Trini Slang "GOD IS A TRINI"

The saying 'God is a Trini' was alighted many years ago, but when we say this we do not mean that God literally derived from Trinidad and Tobago. The saying came about after folks noticed that no matter what may come their way the Islanders always seem to escape the many natural disasters that have occurred.

Trini's was spared from hurricanes multiple times such as Hurricane of 1933’, Hurricane Alma (1974), Hurricane Fran(1990),Hurricane Bret (1993), Hurricane Isidore(2002), another Hurricane Bret(2017), Hurricane Flora(1963), Hurricane Arthur (1990), Hurricane Joyce(2000). Out of all these mentioned the only storm that caused any significant damage was the "Hurricane like storm" of 1933. And still it wasn't enough for people to stop believing that God is a Trini.

If you think surviving Hurricanes was bad, how about earthquakes…

In the year 1766 Trinidad was hit with a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake known as the San Jose earthquake, which destroyed Trinidad's original capital of San Jose, now known as St Joseph. Yet still God is a Trini.

Here is a list of some earthquakes the Blessed Trinidad and Tobago was spares from:

...The 1888 7.5 magnitude earthquake which causing damage from Trinidad all the way to St. Vincent. But Hey, God is a Trini.

...In 1954, An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 was recorded thank God For being an Trini.

...In 1968 A 7.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Trinidad, this time causing significant damage to Venezuela with minimal damage to Port of Spain. This is reassurance that God is a Trini, isn't it?

The list goes on >>>

1982 - 5.2 magnitude earthquake.

1996 - 5.2 Magnitude earthquake

1997 - 6.7 magnitude earthquake

2006 - 6.1 magnitude earthquake

2007 - 7.3 magnitude earthquake

2013 - 6.4 magnitude earthquake

2016 - 6.2 magnitude earthquake

2018 - 6.9 magnitude earthquake

2020 - four earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.8, 4.4, 4.9 and 4.8

2022 - 5.1 magnitude earthquake

Are you a believer yet? Just kidding.

Although the geolocation of the tropical paradise has protected the islands from numerous deadly disasters, it has also cursed the island with a watery style grave.

Like Trini's will say "what doh miss yuh eh go pass yuh" meaning that although an incident didn't affect you today, doesn't mean another won't someday.

Within just 2 hours of consistent rainfall the majority of the city of Port of Spain is severely flooded. Once the rainfall is heavy or intense and consistent, within a short period of time you will experience street flooding where most access roads are drenched in flood waters, and in just a matter of time with consistent rainfall major waterways will breach it's banks, spilling water into neighboring villages causing damage to property and livelihood.

Maybe God really is a Trini! If so, it's best Trini's do as Noah did and build an Ark. Or as a Trini will say "yuh better take front, before front take you"

Trinidad is my home and it's a pleasure for me to enlighten the world about our uniqueness.

I hope you enjoyed reading and I will continue writing for you. All the best… Your Moxie friend,
